Our recipes for a happy,
healthy baby.
Serenity Kids is committed to the health and safety of your baby, so every pouch is a promise of quality, rigorously heavy metal tested, and free from any unwanted junk because we know #EveryBiteCounts!
We believe high-quality baby food starts with our farmers. From our beyond organic vegetables to grass-fed and pasture-raised meats, we seek out only the finest small American family farms to create a product that truly contains the healthiest stuff on Earth.
We recommend waiting to introduce solids until a baby is at least six months old. In special cases, doctors may recommend introducing solids earlier. Luckily, we’ve created a great first food for your little one! As with all first foods that you give your baby, it’s a great idea to test for an allergic reaction to individual ingredients. You can actually do this yourself by introducing single foods one at a time. Having said all this, if your healthy babe isn’t interested in solid foods at six months, there is no reason to rush into it just yet. Trust your intuition and your baby’s – you’ve got this!
Our new Toddler Purees with Bone Broth contain real whole food ingredients with nutrients that are suitable for babies six months and up! We indicate that they are for toddlers because they have more complex flavors that will taste especially good to toddlers. We also add a pinch of Himalayan sea salt to these pouches for the more developed palate with a home-cooked meal taste.
A little known truth is that fatty meats are actually a great first food for your little one. A baby’s stomach already contains all the enzymes necessary to digest meat and breastmilk is animal fat and protein. Therefore, other animal fats and proteins are ideal first solid foods because of their nutrient density! You can read more about that on our blog here!
We want your little one to have the most amazing, high quality ingredients on the planet, and we know you do too! If you’ve ever shopped for grass fed or pasture raised meats, you know these ingredients are more expensive than conventionally raised meats. Where most other baby foods contain high amounts of fruit or other less expensive fillers, such as rice, legumes or oats, we’re committed to sustainable and healthy ingredients. This comes at a premium, but we think it’s worth it. We strive to offer the best quality ingredients in order to build a stronger, healthier generation.
Yes we do! If your little one simply won’t eat it or you're dissatisfied in any way, we’re happy to refund your money up to 100 days after your order.
The first step that we recommend to parents across the board is to introduce single foods one at a time in order to test for allergens. Once you have determined that your little one is not allergic to any ingredients listed on the package, our pouches are perfect for meal time! Each savory blend is made to mimic the macronutrients of breastmilk so your baby’s flavor window develops into one that encourages healthier eating when they grow older!
Babies naturally enjoy sweeter foods, but that doesn’t mean they need sugar! Even the high sugar content in some fruit can be excessive for their little bodies. Remember that veggies tend to contain the same important vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and fiber as fruits…and then some! A little tip… if you go with something like root veggies (winter squash, sweet potato, etc.) – it’s a great compromise because they provide a sweetness that will make your baby happy, but will also make their cute little bodies happy, too! This is because root veggies have slow-burning, starchy carbs instead of simple sugars so it’s a win-win!
When it comes to store bought baby foods, pay attention to the sugar content. Check the number of grams and stick to servings under 5g. Doesn’t sound like a lot, does it? But actually, 5g of sugar for a 15-pound baby is like a 150-pound adult eating 50g of sugar, which is the equivalent of drinking a 16-ounce cola. Yikes!
Of course! People (and dogs) of all ages love our food. We’ve seen our fans take our products on hikes, on long road trips, or even just to run errands!
Healthy levels of sodium are an important factor in a child’s growth and development- particularly when it comes to hydration! Sodium is a major part of the body’s fluid and electrolyte balance system because it is the chief ion used to maintain the volume of fluid outside the cell. It’s required to maintain acid-base balance and ensure muscle contraction and nerve transmission. We studied the USDA Infant Nutrition & Feeding Guide, the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 8th Edition, and the United Kingdom’s National Health Service’s recommendation while developing our products. We also consult with a network of health professionals and pediatricians like Dr. Michelle Levitt. Our Toddler Purees with Bone Broth contain around 70 mg of sodium per pouch. The USDA Infant Nutrition & Feeding Guide recommends 110mg sodium per day for infants 0-6 months and 370 mg per day for 7-12 months. The USDA Dietary Guidelines have no stated maximum intake for sodium, but the United Kingdom’s National Health Service recommends no more than 400mg for infants up to 1 year old and 800mg for 1-3 years.
Yes! All of the protein in our baby foods comes from meat, and we are the only baby food we found that has at least 5 grams of protein and doesn’t contain additional fillers like beans, rice, dairy, or oats.
Definitely! Feeding your baby off of your own plate, or making your own fresh purees, is always the healthiest option. Our food is great for when you are unable to cook, are on the go, are in need of a healthy and reliable snack to quickly hand your kiddo, or when sending them off to Grandma’s! Check out our Infant Nutrition Quick Start Guide for recipes and nutritional guidelines on how to make them their own food or our blog post where we talk in depth about this very topic.
Baby-led weaning is a process of letting the baby decide when s/he is ready to begin eating solid foods. Once they are six months or older, babies will typically begin to demonstrate interest in adult foods. Parents can use their instincts to determine when they are ready for solid foods and let them lead, rather than trying to pressure them to eat before they are ready. Read all about why we love both baby led weaning and purees in our blog post on baby led introduction to solids!
Sure do! We love working with people who have a passion for starting babies off with the best nutrition. Please submit your donation request here.
Yes! Our pouches are made from BPA-free plastic and the caps are recyclable anywhere that plastic is recycled. The pouches are unique because they are not recyclable in traditional plastic recycling because they are a mixture of different plastics. Therefore, we have partnered with TerraCycle to keep our pouches out of landfills.
No. Our pouches are designed to be enjoyed at room temperature, but if your babe prefers them warm or you’ve stored an open pouch in the refrigerator, we suggest that you place the pouch in hot water or a bottle warmer. Do not microwave.
Unopened pouches can be consumed up to 18 months from the date of manufacture. You can find the best by date on the back of the pouch under the nutrition facts panel.
We recommend eating or freezing it within 24 hours of opening.
Thanks to the high-heat, high-pressure retort process (similar to canning) that our pouches go through, there is no need to refrigerate unopened pouches! However, once you’ve opened the pouch, be sure to refrigerate it and consume or freeze within 24 hours of opening.
Some of our purees may leave a colored tinge on the silicone of your little one’s spoon, and that is most likely a result of the combination of all ingredients! For example, in our products containing kale, a yellow looking stain could be left behind. Also, sweet potatoes added with the natural fattiness of meat can make staining happen even more regularly than others. A quick Mom-hack is that acidic things will help to break down the stain and get your utensils and high chair tray looking brand new again! We recommend lemon juice before or soaking your utensils in a little bit of watered down vinegar.
Yes! Once opened, you can freeze the puree within 24 hours of opening. This way your babe can have it for later consumption! You also can freeze the entire unopened pouched and its contents – popsicles, anyone?
We were very concerned about this because we live in hot hot Texas. We chose a pouch that is extra durable and specially designed to withstand high heat up to 250 degrees. Our final pouches are also randomly selected and sent to an additional third party testing facility to ensure its purity.
Definitely not! Our pouches are put through a high-heat, high-pressure process after they are sealed. This process kills all potential pathogens or mold. The reports you may have heard about parents finding mold were all in pouches that had been processed using “hot fill”, meaning they pasteurize it first and then fill the pouches, which allows the small chance of contamination in between. Since our process is different, you don’t need to worry about your little one being exposed to mold when it comes to our pouches!
We do not! Our pouches are shelf-stable because they are put through a heat and pressure process similar to home canning. When feeding your little one our purees you can feel confident that they are fully safe and free from preservatives.
There are three types of agriculture. Degenerative farming harms the planet and leaves the land worse than we found it. Sustainable agriculture does no harm, leaving the land the same as we found it. Regenerative agriculture improves the land, leaving it better than we found it. For instance, strategic grazing of ruminants (such as cows and bison) can turn desert into grassland. The animals eat the tall dead grass that would otherwise fall over and shade out new growth, and they leave behind manure which acts as a fertilizer. Millions of acres of grassland have been restored with this method! Learn more at the Savory Institute’s website or by watching Alan Savory’s mind-blowing Ted Talk. Serenity Kids is proud to source meat from farmers that are improving the environment by practicing these methods. How cool is it that what is good for your baby is also good for animals, farmers, and the planet!
Our chicken and all of our vegetables are certified organic and are non-GMO project verified. Our beef and pork are raised organically, with no hormones, antibiotics or GMO feed. We source from farmers that raise their animals exclusively on pasture in sustainable and regenerative ways which means they rotate the grazing constantly to avoid overgrazing any one area. This practice makes organic certification extremely costly because every inch of pasture on their entire farm would have to be certified. On the other hand, our Salmon is wild caught which means it also cannot be certified organic because it is not a product of agriculture. For these reasons, we chose to forgo the organic certification in order to support farmers and use regeneratively raised meat, which is better for your baby and better for the planet.
Our products are not certified kosher to orthodox standards by any third party agency. However, our manufacturing facility does follow segregation protocols to prohibit any form of cross contamination. All our organic savory vegetable products are kosher pareve, free from dairy and meat. In addition, our ethically raised meats are sourced and humanely prepped to the highest of Global Animal Partnership standards.
The ratios of fat, protein, and carbohydrates in our baby food pouches represent an ideal balance of the macronutrients that your little one needs to thrive – and that includes necessary protein and fat! Babies 7 to 12 months old need at least 30 grams of fat and 11 grams of protein a day. Fat and protein from pasture raised animals have no added chemicals, and provide the healthiest source of these nutrients for the human body. It’s incredibly nutritious (and not to mention, delicious) for your little one! Learn more on our nutrition page.
Any time food is cooked, some vitamin content is lost, especially when it comes to antioxidants. However, our method retains more vitamins than all other processes. To make our baby foods, we combine the ingredients in small batches and bring them up to a non-boiling temperature. Then we blend into a smooth puree, fill the pouches, and put them in a large pressure cooker where they are held under heat and pressure for a short period of time. This process kills any bacteria and makes the product shelf stable without the need for preservatives or refrigeration, similar to home canning. Most other shelf stable baby foods are boiled for a long period of time prior to going into the pouch, and a significant amount of nutrients are lost as they are “boiled off”. Our retort process maintains maximum nutrition because everything stays in the pouch, and studies have proven that pressure cooking preserves more vitamins than any other cooking method. Our process also leaves the fat, protein, fiber, carbohydrates, and minerals 100% in tact.
Additionally, studies show that frozen vegetables maintain more vitamins than fresh vegetables. All our vegetables are frozen immediately after they are harvested maintaining maximum vitamin content.
So while we recommend babies primarily eat fresh foods for a variety of reasons, you can rest assured that you are not sacrificing nutrition when choosing our shelf stable baby foods.
The safety of our babies is the absolute number one priority. We want you and your little one to enjoy our products, without question. Our pouches are manufactured in facilities and on lines that also process milk, tree nut, egg, soy, fish, and wheat. While we do not test specifically for traces of these in between production runs, the machinery is washed using a hot flush that brings the water up to 140 degrees, and then is sanitized to kill any bacteria and prevent cross contamination. This sanitation process is proven to effectively remove all allergen residues. Random verification is performed on the processing equipment on a monthly basis through third party verification. We also follow all the highest SQF food safety protocols which include good manufacturing practices like food testing, third-party inspections, and audits from start to finish so that your baby can get the safest most nutrient-dense goods.
The %DV that appears on our meat pouches varies by flavor because not all proteins are created equal. The percent daily value is not calculated based on the 5g of protein present in each pouch, but by the quality of protein that each ingredient contributes. Protein quality is dependent on the amino acid profile of each ingredient and the amino acids present in one, like Chicken or Salmon, are very different from the amino acids present in another, like Beef or Bison.
We think about fat a lot! We are committed to having at least 5 grams of fat in every pouch and we use organic expeller pressed extra virgin olive oil and avocado oil to help us achieve that. We know that pasture raised animal fats are the best, so we use those exclusively in our beef and bacon products. But we currently haven’t been able to find a good source of chicken fat or salmon fat, so we supplement those with the highest quality organic expeller pressed extra virgin oils we could find. We're always working to find better ingredients, where possible so if you have an idea, let us know by sending an email to [email protected]">[email protected].
The Clean Label Project has done independent testing of Serenity Kids products to look for over 200 environmental contaminants, including heavy metals and plasticizers. The Clean Label Project has determined that we meet the standards for their Purity and Pesticide Free Awards.
Yes, all our vegetables are certified organic by Oregon Tilth and are Non-GMO Project Verified.
Our core line of Ethically Sourced Meats & Organic Savory Veggies have no added sodium. Our Toddler Purees with Bone Broth include a pinch of Himalayan sea salt for a toddler’s more developed palate. These purees have a home-cooked meal taste and around 70 mg of sodium per pouch. Himalayan sea salt is the purest salt on Earth containing up to 84 trace minerals and elements that regular table salt does not have; including potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron. It is known to have many health benefits including flushing out toxins, regulating blood sugar, and improving digestion.
It is so important to us as parents to know where our meat is coming from. We are so happy to give y’all the peace of mind in knowing that we partner with farmers who raise their animals on pasture, without hormones, antibiotics, or GMO feed. Our farmers practice regenerative agriculture, which means they graze their herds in a way that mimics herd behavior in nature and naturally improves the land. We are also certified through Global Animal Partnership which ensures that all our farmers follow humane animal care practices. You can learn more about our farmers and regenerative agriculture at the Savory Institute.
Our Grain Free Puffs are 16-18mm in diameter and they are safe to consume for babies and toddlers per the industry standard. Our puffs begin to dissolve when they interact with saliva, so no teeth are needed to eat them. However, with all foods, we recommend that a child not be left unattended while feeding.
Yes, our canister can be recycled in a standard plastic recycling bin after the outside label is taken off with the easy to remove perforation tear away. We are working on other options so that we can make the entire packaging recyclable in the future.
Cassava flour is a whole food clean ingredient that is transformed from 100% raw cassava root into a high-quality gluten-free flour that mimics baking performance characteristics similar to grains. The cassava flour that we use is not only organic, but it is also Fair Trade Certified, gluten-free certified, non-allergenic, nut and grain free, non-gmo and Kosher certified. For information about where it is sustainably sourced, read about the small holder farmers on our missions page.
This product is not an infant formula so we are not allowed to recommend this product for infants. Our Toddler Formula contains the required FDA nutrients for infant formula, however, it has not yet gone through the FDA evaluation process that is required for infant formula. So until then, we can only recommend our Grass Fed A2 Whole Milk Toddler Formula for children ages 12 months and up, or as directed by a health professional.
A2 Whole Milk is milk sourced from cows that naturally produce only the A2 form of the beta-casein protein, as opposed to most dairy which contains A1 protein. We use Organic A2 Whole Milk from regeneratively farmed grass-fed American cows as a predominant ingredient because A2 beta-casein is the same primary protein found in human milk and the most natural to the human body so it is known to be easily absorbed and digested. A2 Whole Milk is a great source of protein, energy, calcium, magnesium, phosphate, B vitamins, iodine, healthy fats and amino acids.
Serenity Kids toddler formula is made with organic ingredients and is produced in an organic certified facility. Serenity Kids only wants to provide the best for little ones - a formula that includes beneficial prebiotics (HMOs, GOS, FOS, and nucleotides), vitamins, minerals, and fortifications like wild algal oil that can’t be certified organic. Unfortunately, HMOs and nucleotides currently cannot be included in certified organic toddler and adult products but they are allowed in organic infant formulas. Serenity Kids made the tough choice to include these important fortifications in their toddler formula even though it meant the product can’t officially be classified as organic, because they’re all about squeezing in maximum nutrition.
Our A2 Whole Milk Toddler Formula is manufactured in a facility that is approved for infant formula manufacturing. It also processes eggs, milk, soy, wheat, and tree nuts. While they are present in the facility, there is a validated cleaning procedure that ensures all food residue is removed from processing equipment. Serenity Kids also tests the product after each production to ensure that the presence of any allergens in a previous run are not present.
While the amount of formula you feed and how often you feed will vary based on age and situation, preparation instructions and mixing ratios do not change. Proper formula preparation is required for maximum nutrition intake.
Steps to prepare the formula:
1) Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water beforehand. Make sure all feeding and preparation recruitment are fully sanitized.
2) Boil at least 2 cups of safe or filtered water. Pour the correct amount of boiled water into a cleaned and sterilized feeding bottle.
3) Add the exact amount of formula to the water in the bottle. Use the chart below for correct amounts of water and powder. Use the scoop in the tub to measure powder.
4) Cap the bottle and mix thoroughly until dissolved by gentle shaking or swirling the bottle.
5) Immediately cool to feeding temperature by holding the bottle under cold running water or placing it in a container of cold water. Check the temperature of the feed by dripping a little on the inside of your wrist. It should feel lukewarm, not hot.
Powder to Water Ratios:
We would recommend consulting your healthcare professional to understand your little one’s personal needs.
Serenity Kids A2 Whole Milk Toddler Formula is intended for toddlers 12 months to 36 months old. Please consult your healthcare professional to understand how much you feed and how often you feed because it will vary based on age and situation.
We do not recommend mixing the formula powder with anything other than water. If you would like to add the powder into a drink like a smoothie, we would recommend first mixing it to create the formula drink with water to maximize nutrition before adding the formula drink to the blender.
Our preparation instructions recommend boiling at least 2 cups of safe or filtered water. If you have further concerns, please consult your healthcare professional.
Freshly prepared formula should be refrigerated and used within 24 hours of mixing. Discard leftover, unused formula after feeding.
