Here’s What We Do To Make Sure We Have the Safest Baby Food

There’s a whole lot of buzz around baby food safety. And actually, we aren’t too surprised. When we first started Serenity Kids, we were surprised at how little regulation there is for baby foods. The only thing regulated about our products is what we say on the label!

That means that it's up to a company to do what’s right. To not cut corners to save a dime, and to go above and beyond what is required to do what is right. Unfortunately, recent news has shown, many companies simply do not.

So while we think it’s pretty terrible that a baby food company even has to have this conversation, and that it isn’t a given that baby food is safe for babies, we want to address here exactly what we do to make sure we have the safest baby food on the market.

We use the best ingredients

Safety for us starts with our ingredients. Not only do we create recipes that are packed with nutrition, but they also do not contain ingredients like inflammatory oils or sugary fruits to mask the true taste of the food. We also take extreme care in sourcing from quality family farmers we personally verify are using the best practices. Yes, we visit the farms and ranches to talk to them about their practices and personally trust them.

We vet our manufacturers

We also take care to manufacture our products in the safest facilities possible. Our products are all co-manufactured in the United States by trusted and licensed manufacturing facilities! Serenity Carr, our co-founder & CEO, and members of our Operations team often attend production runs to oversee the process and ensure our safety protocols are being followed.

We abide by the highest Safe Quality Food (SQF) food safety protocols which include good manufacturing practices like food testing, third-party inspections, and audits from start to finish so that your baby can get the safest and most nutrient-dense goods. SQF is a rigorous and credible food safety and quality program that is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). The SQF family of food safety and quality codes are designed to meet industry, customer, and regulatory requirements for all sectors of the food supply chain – from the farm all the way to the retail stores. This rigorous farm-to-fork food safety and quality certification helps assure buyers that their food products meet the highest possible global food safety standards.

We test key ingredients & the finished product

We test key ingredients before they are made into our products. We also test our finished goods to ensure they fall below the European standards for heavy metals. European standards are the strictest in the world. No, it isn’t required that we meet these standards, we’re based in Austin, Texas, but we do it because we believe it’s the right thing to do.

And our efforts are recognized. Our final products have also been tested and verified by the Clean Label Project, a third party that independently tests our products and has awarded them best in class for safety.

We feed them to our own kids

That’s the ultimate test, isn’t it? We created these products for our own daughter because we didn’t like what was available. Our entire team now feeds them to their own children regularly, so their quality and safety are paramount. It has been from the start and it will always be. In other words, we want parents to trust our foods as if they made them for their own child because indeed we made them for ours.
